Green activity on Centro Educativo do Cávado

Today, Plako has promoted an activity called "Painted Bottles", which involved children between ages 3 and 5 from the Centro Educativo do Cávado, at Póvoa de Lanhoso.

The children painted glass bottles for Plako's staff, enhancing the importance of using recyclable materials whenever possible, on their everyday life. They were also alerted for the importance of minimizing the use of plastic bottles, at home and at school, and their substitution for glass bottles.

The Painted Bottles activity rises from the concern that Plako holds in terms of environmental issues. When we changed our facilities to the old Kindergarten of Ferreiros, at Póvoa de Lanhoso, a new internal challenge came along: to erradicate plastic bottles from Plako. Since each member of the staff usually uses a plastic bottle, Plako has decided to replace them for glass bottles: so that everyone has his/her water bottle, but in a much more environmentally friendly way, banning plastic bottles for good.

Some of the children from the Educational Centre belonged to the Kindergarten of Ferreiros until last year, so it was a particularly significant activity, both for Plako and the children. Throughout the entire activity, they shown enthusiasm and curiosity towards environmental issues, questioning about the motives for using glass bottles.

The activity Painted Bottles was possible thanks to the colaboration of Póvoa de Lanhoso City Council and Centro Educativo do Cávado. Opened in September 25th 2010, it has a maximum capacity for 300 students, from 3 to 10 years old, welcoming children from 10 parishes of Póvoa de Lanhoso (Geraz do Minho, Monsul, Águas Santas, Ferreiros, São João de Rei, Covelas, Verim, Friande, Ajude e Moure).
